A Journey through Murals and Art- Ms. SaiLakshmi

Art is an inborn talent that happens to a gifted few. Once you discover your passion for Art, then there is no turning back. For SaiLakshmi, who was once a Primary School Teacher and then a Business Administrator in IT industry in Dubai, Art was a childhood passion which now she pursues as a career. Meet Ms. SaiLakshmi, who is the owner of Lachu’s Mural and Art Work, an online store selling Hand painted Fabrics, accessories and canvas.
I take the pleasure to welcome Ms. Sailakshmi to our “The Lady Entrepreneur Series”.

How long have you been doing this? What inspired you or how did you actually come up with the idea?

Though art in such form is truly priceless, the main intention behind beginning my own business was to make original hand painted products more affordable and popular among the common people.

Art and craft was my passion since childhood, I always enjoyed playing with colors. However, I could pursue this seriously after I relocated from Dubai in 2013. Lachu’s Murals was born in September 2014. Though art in such form is truly priceless, the main intention behind beginning my own business was to make original hand painted products more affordable and popular among the common people.

How did you learn this beautiful art?

Thank God for my two inspirational gurus, GOOGLE and YOUTUBE! I regularly watch tutorials and read articles posted by some talented artists to update my skills and techniques in painting.

How do you market your products? What are your main strategies? How long does it take for you to fulfill an Order? And do you also cater to overseas orders?

We mainly use social networking to market our products. Our Facebook page is a great place to showcase new designs as well as an open platform to post and view feedback from our happy customers. The word of mouth is also a great way to market in small business endeavors like ours. Most of our orders are from friends and families of first time clients.
The time taken to complete an order usually varies from three to seven days depending upon the work.
Many of our customers are from the Middle East and the US.

Do you mind sharing with our readers about your family? How do you manage both your family and business?

For a woman, it’s really hard to flourish without an understanding and supportive family. I am grateful to have an encouraging husband, who handles a lot in the purchase and delivery departments. Since my parents stay with us, a lot of my household chores are taken care of by my most benevolent Mom. I am always overwhelmed by the suggestions offered by my younger brother who works in KSA, his wife who is a college lecturer, my younger sister and her husband who live in Australia. My siblings and son make a great team of critics which helps me to continuously retrospect and improve.

Lastly what would be your advice to someone who would like to start a home based online store?
